Medal: Queen's South Africa

Initiated in 1899 and extended to cover the full period of the Anglo-Boer War, 1899-1902. 178,000 medals were awarded, including nurses and war correspondents for the first time. Only 70 of the first striking, dated 1899-1900, were issued, all to Lord Strathcona s Horse who returned to Canada before the war ended. Our replication is a military miniature size and bears the "Orange Free State Defence of Ladysmith" clasp.
